All of the services offered by Eldredge Recovery Resources are personally handled by Dirk. Maintaining a single point of contact is consistently one of the most appealing features of collaborating with him.

Experience Matters

Experience is paramount in the realm of mental health. In a landscape where many individuals claim to be interventionists, it is crucial to choose someone who can consistently provide the most reliable guidance at every turn.

How We Get Started on the Path to Recovery

Included in Dirk’s services are proper assessments, thoughtful and timely preparation, the intervention itself, and typically several months of care management. Dirk doesn’t ever want to make these difficult decisions for the families he works with but rather educate each family to make the most informed choices possible.

Step 1: Assessment

Taking time to assess the psychological, environmental, and emotional situation of each client is essential for success. From there, Dirk can begin to help you navigate the many tough choices in determining the most effective treatment plan for your loved one or yourself. Every assessment is thoughtfully prepared and timed by respecting the identified patient and their family.

Step 2: Intervention

Proper preparation is one key to success that often gets missed. Building the right team is a difference-maker. It’s not about having the most people; it’s about having the right people. Dirk’s adaptive model of intervention helps anticipate blocks and “Yah But” moments so most often, the identified patient accepts the gift of professional care. Dirk’s interventions are often described as “living eulogies” by the families he works with. It’s about lifting people up, not tearing them down. Reminding someone of their wonder and giftedness can often open their hearts up enough to accept the gift of help.

Step 3: Developing a Roadmap to Recovery

To achieve a successful outcome; you must first build a plan of what success looks like. Then when “acceptance” of the problem is realized, the possibilities for healing begin to open. Each treatment plan will look different to honor the unique needs of each individual. Outcome studies all indicate that the longer you keep someone in structured care situations, the more likely they are to achieve long-term recovery.

Step 4: Early Recovery Coaching & Mentoring

This is key. We learn a lot through in-patient and out-patient care along with private therapy. Dirk believes that for knowledge to become wisdom, it must first become part of your constitution. It must become second nature. These types of shifts take time and world-class therapy. Dirk’s love is coaching and staying with the people and families he works with for up to one year and often longer. Recovery is a promise of our future, not a consequence of our past.

Frequently Asked Questions

Selecting the best person to help your family is in fact, a big deal. If your interventionist cannot meet your loved one and family exactly where they are, success will not be achieved. While the most effective way to answer questions is through a phone call or electronic meeting, here is a list of the most common questions Dirk receives.

  • The 30-day model of treatment was born during a time of war where a soldier could get a 30-day leave. There is zero evidence based, clinical data indicating that 30 days is enough time for individuals or families to heal. What I believe is that addiction is a disease of isolation and the antidote is community.

Providing a safe, clinically sound community for individuals to reshape their thinking over the first year of early recovery is producing the best outcomes. Starting with primary care and finishing with experiences like a well-run sober living and outpatient program experiences continue to offer the best outcomes.

  • Clients have full access to me, every step of the way. This is a key to success because building trust takes time. If the identified patient sees me as having a “servant heart with no agenda” they are more likely to actually hear both what I’m saying as well as the family. This advocation includes their time in whatever type of treatment is chosen, while I work alongside each clinical team.

  • Yes, many families request that I serve as simply the interventionist, the care manager or a coach depending on the unique needs of each individual situation.

  • Yes, each of these communication options are used. Meeting people “in-person” as often as possible is also a very helpful foundation to work from.

Recovery is A Process, not an event

The process of intervention requires sound leadership from an individual who is not emotionally connected to the identified patient. It’s ok to not have all the answers if you are simply willing to ask for help. Just as you would seek the best heart surgeon if you had heart disease, you should seek the best professional care possible to arrest the progression of the disease of addiction. Non-judgment and active listening allow me to design a plan that will work for each unique set of circumstances. The process is slow but consistent after an individual truly surrenders to the possibility of change.
